OGC Nice have confirmed that a player who earlier threatened to commit suicide on Friday morning has been safely recovered and is no longer in danger.
Alexis Beka Beka stopped his car on the Magnan viaduct’s A8 motorway, 100 metres above ground, before threatening to jump. France Bleu Azur reported that the 22-year-old French midfielder remained sat on the hard shoulder, his legs hanging in the air, for three and a half hours. Beka Beka was talked out of taking his own life thanks to the help of psychologists who arrived on the scene, including the one working with OGC Nice.
At 2pm, Beka Beka returned to safety on his own. He is currently taken care of by firefighters. The SM Caen youth product was used sparingly for his debut season with Les Aiglons and is yet to feature in the current Ligue 1 campaign.
OGC Nice have released a statement this afternoon to confirm the news. Club president Jean-Pierre Rivère said the following: “Above all, we are relieved that everything ended well today for Alexis. He has been taken care of. We will continue to respect medical confidentiality and we ask everyone to do the same and respect his privacy. We are supporting him as well as everyone within the club.”
