Liverpool signed Naby Keita from RB Leipzig for a transfer fee of €60 million back in the summer of 2018.

However, Keita has not lived up to the price tag. The midfielder has only scored seven goals and registered four assists in 76 appearances for Liverpool.

Keita’s body has let him down on a number of occasions during his time at Anfield. His injury record is horrific.

With that being the case, pundit Noel Whelan believes that Liverpool should look to sell Keita come the summer. Whelan said that Keita still has resale value.

Whelan told Football Insider: “When you’ve had a player that you’ve paid a lot of money for but not had the benefits of them through injury or whatever reason, then you’re better trying to offload the player now.

“He’s been a bigger player this season compared to previous years. You’ve got to take a hit, take a loss, there’s no doubt about that. He’s a good age and still has that reputation which means clubs will take a chance on him.

“It won’t be for what they bought him for but they will recoup some money back, that’s for sure.”

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

There is no denying that Keita is a good player. The midfielder scored 17 goals and registered 15 assists in 71 appearances for RB Leipzig.

However, we completely agree with Whelan. Keita can’t stay fit. With that being the case, he is sitting on the sidelines most of the time.

Keita has only made 16 appearances for Liverpool’s first-team this season. Due to the aforementioned reasons, it would make sense if the club did look to move the Guinea international on.

Keita has a current market value of €38 million. The Reds could go out and sign a decent player with the money generated from Keita’s sale.
