Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed in an official announcement that Dutch international Xavi Simons (21) has returned to RB Leipzig on a season-long loan. The 21-year-old spent last season on loan in the Bundesliga with the Red Bull club and is now set to spend a second season in East Germany.
Simons attracted interest from clubs all over Europe as he declared early in the summer transfer window that he did not intend to play his football at the Parc des Princes next season. Bayern Munich were also interested in the Barcelona academy graduate and looked to be leading the race to sign the PSG attacking midfielder, according to L’Équipe.
Eventually, Simons had a change of heart and decided to return to Leipzig following a successful loan spell with the club. The RB Leipzig loanee was an integral part of Marco Rose’s squad last term as he made 43 appearances across all competitions, scoring 8 goals and registering 15 assists.
