It’s been in the works for a while, but now it’s finally formal: 34-year-old Walker leaves England for the first time in his career, joining Sérgio Conceição’s squad to strengthen the defense.

Walker landed in Italy yesterday and underwent the medical check-ups before arriving in Casa Milan for the contract signing. On Friday evening, after all the bureaucratic aspects were addressed, the announcement arrived:

“Milan is pleased to announce the loan signing of Kyle Andrew Walker from Manchester City FC, with an option to buy.

“Kyle was born on 28 May 1990, in Sheffield, England. He started his career at Sheffield United and then joined Tottenham Hotspur, making his Premier League debut in March 2010. In the summer of 2017, he moved to Manchester City. During his time there, he played 319 matches and won 17 trophies. This includes six Premier League titles and one Champions League trophy in 2023.

“Walker debuted for the English national team in November 2011 and has been capped 93 times. For his time with the Rossoneri, Walker has chosen to wear shirt number 32.”

In addition to his technical skills, Walker will also bring a winning mentality to Milan, having won so much in his career. He most likely won’t be able to play against Parma on Sunday and cannot play in the Champions League before the next round, so he could therefore make his debut against Inter on February 2nd.

The Englishman wrote on his Twitter account after completing the move: “Ciao Milan! I’m delighted and proud to sign for Milan! A club with such rich history, one I’ve followed since I was a kid. It’s an honour to join and I can’t wait to pull on the Rossoneri shirt and get started. I’m very much looking forward to this new chapter in my career and to beginning this journey with my family in Italy. Thank you to Mark Rankine, the journey continues. Finally a huge thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way, both on and off the pitch. See you soon! Forza Milan.”

Walker also spoke briefly to MilanTV: “Tammy Abraham told me I should come, he helped me make a decision. The fans here are incredible, hearing them sing, feeling their support means a lot and it will be a great boost until the end of the season. The 32 shirt? I chose the number 32 for David Beckham, an icon in our country.”

Kyle is Milan’s first signing of the January transfer window which closes in just over a week. Signing Walker permanently will reportedly cost Milan €5m in the summer.

The Rossoneri are also trying to sign a new striker, particularly Santiago Giménez from Feyenoord for whom an initial offer has been made.
