VfL Wolfsburg have announced the signing of Nicolas Cozza from French Ligue 1 side Montpellier HSC.
The 24-year-old left-back has put pen to paper and signed a contract until 2027 and arrives for a fee of €500k. A product of Montpellier’s youth academy, Cozza went on to make 100 league appearances in France’s top division.
It was a transfer which made sense for both sides with Cozza’s contract running out in the summer. What’s more, the full-back will come in immediately to replace the outgoing Jérôme Roussillon. The experienced 30-year-old recently joined fellow Bundesliga outfit, Union Berlin.
VfL sporting director Marcel Schäfer welcome the new addition by saying: “Nicolas is a player who has made great progress in recent years. He brings a good basic tactical understanding and stands for a high footballing quality, which he constantly calls off despite his young age. We’re looking forward to a versatile player who can develop and who will enrich our team.”
Cozza possibly couldn’t have chosen a better time to join Wolfsburg as they’ve hit the ground running since the restart of the Bundesliga. In their first match of 2023, VfL smashed an in-form SC Freiburg side 6-0 before traveling to Hertha Berlin and beating them 5-0.
