Venezia have officially sold US-national team midfielder Tanner Tessmann to Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais on a permanent transfer.
Lyon have paid a fee of €6m to sign the two-time international, while Venezia will also receive 10% of the profits from any future sale.
The 22-year-old has joined Pierre Sage’s side on a five-year deal, running until the summer of 2029. He will become the first ever American to play for Lyon.
Tessmann had been linked with a move to join Simone Inzaghi’s Inter earlier this summer, but that move collapsed when it came down to negotiations on personal terms. Inter had hoped to sign the player and then send him out on loan.
The central midfielder featured in all-but-one league game for Venezia last season, as they won promotion from Serie B via the play-offs at the beginning of June.
He had registered 10 goals from 99 appearances in all competitions since his move to Italy from FC Dallas in 2021.
“Olympique Lyonnais is very pleased to welcome Tanner Tessmann who becomes the first American in history to wear the club’s jersey,” Lyon wrote in a club statement.
