TSG Hoffenheim have announced the singing of John Brooks from Portuguese side Benfica.
The American international returns to the Bundesliga, where he made over 200 appearances in the German top-flight for Hertha Berlin and VfL Wolfsburg.
The 29-year-old has signed a contract until June 2024 and only cost the club €300k plus bonuses. The defender’s time in Portugal never really got going. Since joining from Wolfsburg in last year, Brooks only played a handful of games and was never first choice. The move back to the Bundesliga and familiar surroundings makes sense for everyone involved.
Brooks plans to take part in Hoffenheim training today and could be ready for selection against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday. Currently 13th with no win in five league matches, Brooks will bolster the defence and hopefully steer the club away from relegation.
Upon the announcement of the singing, Brooks released a statement saying: “I know both the league and the Hoffenheim very well and am highly motivated to get started straight away and do my part to get us back on the road to success.”
