After a disastrous 2024/25 season, in which Milan finished in 8th place showing incompetence on the field, on the bench and above all at Casa Milan, the Rossoneri have decided to sign a Director of Sport.

The “gruppo di lavoro” which led Milan to a miserable campaign now has a new member: Igli Tare. The Albanian was for months in talks with the Diavolo, who were looking at different profiles but failed to get them, and this week he put pen to paper to join the Club.

“Milan announces the appointment of Igli Tare as the First Team’s Sporting Director. He will report directly to the Club’s Chief Executive Officer, Giorgio Furlani,” a statement reads.

“Born in Vlorë (Albania) on July 25, 1973, Tare has extensive experience in Italian professional football, having played for Brescia, Bologna and Lazio. After retiring from his playing career, he established himself as a high-profile executive, serving as Sporting Director of S.S. Lazio for over fifteen years. During his tenure, he contributed significantly to the Club’s recent successes, including three Coppa Italia titles and three Italian Super Cups.

“Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani stated: ‘We are pleased to welcome Igli Tare to the Rossoneri family. He is the right person to kick-off our reset: competence, determination and strong values, combined with a deep understanding of Italian football and an international vision, make him the ideal profile to support the Club’s next chapter, through the development of an ambitious sporting project.’

“The new Rossoneri Sporting Director, Igli Tare, commented: ‘Becoming part of a Club like Milan is a source of immense pride and responsibility. I thank the Club for entrusting me with this role. The Club knows my strong determination and my desire to succeed: I will dedicate all my experience to serving this great Club, which is determined to return to the forefront of Italian and European football.'”

Milan fans will indeed hope that Tare is the right man at the right place. He has a very difficult task in hand and his first order of business is to choose next season’s coach.
