Sunderland have officially confirmed the signing of French defender Timothée Pembélé (20) from Paris Saint-Germain on a permanent deal. The right-back has signed a 5-year deal at the Stadium of Light, lasting until 2028. The agreed fee between PSG and Sunderland is undisclosed.
Genoa tried to complete a deal for the French right-back earlier in the transfer window but were unsuccessful. After also being linked with Frankfurt in the transfer window, the French U20 international will now embark on a new chapter of his career in the North East of England. Sunderland also tried to complete a move for Pembélé’s former PSG teammate Edouard Michut on deadline day but were unsuccessful. Michut spent the 2022/23 season on loan at the Stadium of Light.
Pembélé was one of the members of PSG’s “loft”, which featured Mbappé before he returned to first-team training, this summer. The former Bordeaux loanee went on to make 37 senior appearances in Ligue 1, but only 11 of these games were in a PSG shirt.
