German international Josha Vagnoman has received a new VfB Stuttgart deal. Considered a transfer candidate this summer, the 24-year-old unexpectedly beat out high profile new signing Lorenz Assignon for the starting right back role in training camp. Vagnoman was rewarded by his Bundesliga club on Sunday.
“Josha has been on a special journey with VfB in recent years,” VfB board-member-for-sport Fabian Wohlgemith noted in a club statement. “We’ve gone from the relegation playoffs [2023] to runners-up in the league [2024] to winning the DFB Cup [2025]. He’s a valuable member of our squad.“
“I feel very comfortable in the team and with the club as a whole,” Vagnoman noted in his own statement. “I am proud of the path we have forged together. This is a great incentive for me to continue to be successful with VfB in the future and to develop further.”
With Vagnoman as the starting right back, Stuttgart were able to pick up their first win of the 2025/26 Bundesliga campaign yesterday. The Swabians shook off a quite a bit in order to bag their first three points of the season.
Sebastian Hoeneß’ team lost against Bayern in the DFL Supercup, were upset Union Berlin on the opening league matchday, and looked very shaky in their first match played in defense of their DFB Pokal title.
To all of this, one can also add the loss of attacking talisman Nick Woltemade to the Premier League on the final weekend of the transfer window. Vagnoman’s extension provided the Cannstatter with a much needed boost.
