Strasbourg have annnounced the arrival of Ivorian defender Abakar Syllla from Club Brugge, with the 20-year-old putting pen to paper on a five-year deal with the Alsatian outfit.
The two clubs have reportedly agreed on an fee worth €20m including bonuses, a record signing for the Ligue 1 side, who are now owned by BlueCo, the consortium that bought Chelsea last year.
The centre-back made 26 appearances in all competitions last year for the Flemish team, having made his senior debut at the end of the previous campaign. He found the net once, scoring his first professional goal against Bayer Leverkusen during the team’s Champions League group stage campaign.
He had initially joined Club Brugge during the summer of 2021, after coming through the youth ranks in his home town of Yamoussoukro. Sylla’s impressive form this past season saw him earn his first senior international caps, having been called up in September.
