On August 6, 2025, Son Heung-Min officially left Tottenham to sign with Los Angeles FC. The 33-year-old South Korean forward joins MLS after ten seasons in the Premier League.
Son Heung-Min thus closes out a remarkable decade with Tottenham, having played 454 matches and scored 173 goals, making him the fifth-highest scorer in Spurs history. The South Korea captain joins LAFC as a designated player on a contract that runs through 2027, with options for 2028 and a possible extension until June 2029.
This signing is a major coup for Los Angeles FC, who have landed one of the most iconic Asian footballers in the world. The transfer fee set a new Major League Soccer record. Acquired for $26 million, Son surpasses the $22 million Atlanta United paid for Emmanuel Latte Lath last winter. John Thorrington, LAFC's co-president and general manager, hailed the arrival of a global icon perfectly aligned with the club's values.
“Sonny is a global icon and one of the most dynamic and accomplished players in world football. His ambition, ability, and personality are a perfect fit for LAFC’s values. We are proud he chose Los Angeles to write the next chapter of his extraordinary career. Sonny is a proven winner and a world-class individual, and we are confident he will elevate our club and inspire our community, both on and off the pitch,” said John Thorrington, LAFC co-president and general manager.
