Nîmes Olympique have confirmed the signing of Olympique de Marseille’s Simon Ngapandouetnbu (21) on a season-long loan. The Cameroonian U23 will leave his formative club to gain some development after being last season’s third-choice goalkeeper behind Pau López (29) and Rubén Blanco (29).

The arrival of Roberto De Zerbi at Marseille has seen the club revitalise its squad and this has included the goalkeeping rotation. Gerónimo Rulli (32) and Jeffrey de Lange (26) have been brought in with López set to depart and Blanco likely providing backup (once he has returned from his injury) as the new third choice.

Despite the experience gained training with the professional team, Ngapandouetnbu will now be given the chance to earn some first-team involvement at Nîmes. This will be essential at this stage of his career, as he has not looked ready in his brief appearances in Marseille’s preseason friendlies to take on a bigger role at the club.
