Union Berlin have announced the departure of Sheraldo Becker to Real Sociedad after four and a half years with the club.
It is understood that the 28-year-old has signed for the Spanish outfit for a fee of €3 million, becoming Union’s ninth most lucrative sale of all time. However, while the fee may be considered substantially low, with six months remaining on his deal in Köpenick, it is a figure that will reflect good business for Die Eisernen, especially considering Becker signed on a free transfer in the summer of 2019.
As well as this, after 140 appearances at the club, Union have undoubtedly received remarkable service from the Suriname international. With 24 goals and 26 assists, Becker departs Union as one of the most important players in the club’s history, playing a key role in their rise to Europe, which is something he would pay homage to in his farewell speech:
“I will forever be grateful to Union, this is where I became who I am today. Together we have achieved many things in four and a half years that no one would have imagined we could achieve. I will always be proud of that. Now it’s time for me to move on. But the club and the people at Union will always have a place in my heart.”
Nevertheless, in eleven Bundesliga appearances this season, Becker failed to find the back of the net, leaving Union struggling for goals as they currently find themselves embroiled in a relegation battle.
Therefore, as reported by Bild, Union will look to add further reinforcement to their front line, with interest in Servette’s Chris Bedia and PSV Eindhoven’s Yorbe Vertessen.
