The club announced on Monday that the 18-year-old leaves the Black and Yellows on a one-year loan. The deal does not include a buy-option.
“Sergio is a great midfield talent that needs playing time, which we currently cannot guarantee. We wish him the greatest possible success in Spain, many minutes on the pitch and will closely monitor his performances in a strong footballing outfit,” sporting director Michael Zorc said via the club’s press release.
Gomez joined the Westfalenstadion in January of 2018 from FC Barcelona’s under-19 for €3m. The youngster has mostly played for BVB’s under-19 and the under-23, making three mini-appearances for the first team which accumulated to a total of seven minutes.
In the 2019-20 season, he will face Shinji Kagawa in the Aragonese derby where SD Huesca play rivals Real Zaragoza. The first match is scheduled for 22. December.
The talented central midfielder won the Under-19 European Championship with Spain in June. His BVB contract runs until June 2021.
