Sassuolo have officially announced that club legend Domenico Berardi has put pen to paper on a new, long-term contract extension, which could keep him with the club until the age of 35.
Berardi, who has spent the entirety of his senior career with the Neroverdi, has signed a new contract extension which will run until the summer of 2029, the club have announced.
The 31-year-old has made 400 competitive appearances across all competitions during his 13 years with the club’s senior side, scoring 148 goals in that period, 122 of which have come in Serie A.
“Sassuolo is my home,” Berardi said in a statement on the club website.
“Being part of Sassuolo means being part of a family. The Neroverdi jersey represents my history, my career and my passion. I became both a man and a footballer here, and I am happy to continue experiencing these unique emotions in these colours.
“I’d like to thank the Squinzi family, the management, the whole club, the staff, my teammates and the fans for always being by my side. There is still so much to experience together!”
Berardi is set to return to the Italian top flight in 2025-26, having stuck with Sassuolo following their relegation to Serie B at the end of the 2023-24 season.
Berardi scored six goals from 29 appearances in Serie B last season after recovering from a serious achilles tendon injury, which marred his most recent season up in Serie A.
Domenico Beradi suffers injury to his achilles tendon during the Serie A match between Hellas Verona and Sassuolo on March 3, 2024.
