Ruben Aguilar (30) has joined RC Lens from AS Monaco, signing a three-year contract with Les Sang et Or, as announced by the club.
Aguilar’s four-year stay at Monaco has come to an end. The France international joined the Principality club from Montpellier HSC back in 2019 for €8m. Les Héraults attempted to bring Aguilar back to the club this summer but were beaten to his signature by Lens, who can offer the right-back UEFA Champions League football this season.
Aguilar had fallen down the pecking order at Monaco. Last season, he rotated with Vanderson, before the Brazilian full-back ultimately consolidated a starting spot. However, the arrival of Wilfried Singo earlier this summer demoted Aguilar to third place in the hierarchy. Monaco sporting director Thiago Scuro revealed in a press conference on Friday that the departing Frenchman would not be replaced at the Principality club. Aguilar, who is tied to Lens until 2026, will wear the number two shirt for Franck Haise’s side.
