Nice have announced the arrival of left-back Romain Perraud on a loan deal from Championship side Southampton. The former French youth international returns to his formative club, after spending time in the youth ranks between 2014 and 2018, and going out on loan to Paris FC in 2018/19 before he left for Brest on a permanent deal the following summer.

The 25-year-old returns to French football after a two-year spell in the Premier League with the Saints, which ultimately ended in relegation as the team finished bottom of the league last season. Perraud himself made 60 appearances for Southampton in all competitions, scoring five times.

The move effectively means that Lucas Digne’s prospective move from Aston Villa to Les Aiglons is over. Although the French international was close to an agreement over personal terms with Nice, there was a hold-up as the Birmingham-based side were looking to get a deal for his replacement – Sevila’s Marcos Acuña – across the line first.
