Robin Le Normand (26) has been called up by Spain’s national team manager Luis de la Fuente. The Brittany-born Real Sociedad centre-back was naturalised a Spanish citizen, through an official decree last month. Like Aymeric Laporte (29), Le Normand played no competitive games with Les Bleus and was eligible to play with La Roja. This Friday morning, Le Normand was called up by De La Fuente for Spain’s June fixtures. PSG left-back Juan Bernat (30) and Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio (27), who is set to join the French capital next summer, have made the cut too.

Spain will play Italy on June 15th in Enschede for the UEFA Nations League Final Four. Should they win against Italy, they will face either The Netherlands or Croatia for the final on June 18th in Rotterdam.

Following news that Le Normand was eligible to play for Spain, France’s national team boss Didier Deschamps said the former was followed by his staff, although he never earned a call-up. “He is not a player who features in a big European club. But he has been performing well for several seasons. It’s his choice and I wish him the best with the Spanish national team.”
