Official: Real Madrid academy star registered with first team | OneFootball

The FIFA Club World Cup brought many positives for Real Madrid and the new manager Xabi Alonso including the team’s improved play, the shining debutants and relative solidity as a unit.

One of the few negatives it exposed, however, was the level of Raul Asencio. While indeed one tournament is too small a sample size to make any judgements over the player, he made crucial errors in every start and looked a liability in every sense of the word.

The player whose future looked secure at the club until that point, thus, saw a drastic change in his situation and has even been linked with a potential exit by some outlets.

Registered with the first team

Despite playing a pioneering role for Real Madrid last season, Asencio was registered as a player of the subsidiary team and played for Los Blancos with the number 35.

The young defender has now officially been registered with the first team as of earlier today in what marks a momentous occasion for him.

His number is yet to be decided, but he will have an official first-team spot as it stands despite his poor form in recent times. After all, it was a part of the contract renewal he signed a few months ago.

While Asencio’s continuity at Real Madrid is likely, there may be s a small chance that Real Madrid consider the idea of selling him after his recent dip in form.

A lot, however, will depend on the form of Eder Militao, Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba for Dean Huijsen is currently the only undisputed starter in the department.

Last season, Asensio made 23 league appearances for the club and oversaw six clean sheets in the process with close to nine defensive actions per game.
