However, the Saxony-based club beat Der Rekordmeister to the signing and have secured Simon’s services for another year.

Nevertheless, there is no clause within the deal that could see Leipzig purchase Simons at the end of the loan; instead, they would have to negotiate a fee with the Parisians should they elect to make the move permanent.

It has been confirmed that the 21-year-old will wear the number ‘10’ shirt next season for Leipzig, something that the playmaker is very excited about: “It is a great honour to be able to wear the number 10 shirt next season, especially after a club legend like Emil Forsberg has worn it for so many years. I will do everything I can to do justice to this number.”

Speaking on his return to Leipzig, Simons stated:

“Everything I hoped for from my move to Leipzig has come true. I found a great team from the start, felt complete trust from everyone, and was able to develop as a player and as a person. RB Leipzig simply offers the perfect environment for this. Added to this is the appreciation for how the club has been very clear but also discreetly looking after me for months and has shown me a clear plan for the coming season.”

“We want to attack the top of the Bundesliga again, stay in the Cup and Champions League for as long as possible, and definitely get further in these competitions than we did last year. We will therefore once again start the season with a very good squad, another point that the people in charge and the coaching team convinced me of. I am already fully motivated to continue to improve and do my part to ensure success. I really feel very comfortable in Leipzig and am very happy to be able to play for this club and these fans for another year. I am ready to make history!”

It is understood that Simons will resume training with Leipzig on Monday, where undoubtedly, the plans of pushing for a maiden Bundesliga title will begin.
