Borussia Dortmund have announced that they have signed Ramy Bensebaini on a free transfer from Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Bensebaini signs a contract at Dortmund until 2027. On his move to Dortmund, Bensebaini said: “I don’t have to say much about the radiance of Borussia Dortmund. The extraordinary atmosphere in Signal Iduna Park, through which the team is pushed, I have felt as an opposing player myself. I know what BVB is capable of and I am sure that we as a team will build on the last second round. I can’t wait to be part of BVB myself to play titles and experience this special atmosphere in Dortmund.”

Sporting director Sebastian Kehl also commented on Bensebaini’s signing: “Ramy is a player of the best age, he has gained a lot of national and international experience in the Bundesliga, the French Ligue 1, the Champions League and the Europa League and is also a firm part of the selection of his home country. We are sure that his sporting development is not yet complete. In our conversations with him, we saw the unconditional will to attack with Borussia Dortmund and to want to play for titles. We are very much looking forward to working with a professional who has a good balance between defensive and offensive play.”

The Algerian is to replace Raphaël Guerreiro who last Sunday announced his departure from Dortmund after seven years. Bensebaini is coming off of his second-best season output-wise at Gladbach, having scored seven goals for the club including two against his new club Dortmund, most recently a penalty in Dortmund’s 5-2 win in May.

This is Dortmund’s first confirmed signing of a summer that is likely to bring about a lot of change within the squad. Bensebaini follows the same path that Marco Reus, Mahmoud Dahoud and Thorgan Hazard have all taken by swapping Mönchengladbach for Dortmund.

At Gladbach, Bensebaini is likely to be replaced by Luca Netz as well as new signing from Hertha Berlin Lukas Ullrich.
