Parma have officially announced the appointment of former Roma and Inter defender Cristian Chivu as the club’s new head coach following the departure of Fabio Pecchia on Monday evening.
Chivu has put pen to paper on a contract that will run until the end of the 2025-26 season according to reports from Sky Sport Italia.
The Romanian has also brought his own backroom staff with him, consisting of assistant coach Antonio Gagliardi, technical assistant Angelo Palombo and goalkeeper coach Nicola Pavarini.
Chivu began his coaching career with Inter’s youth teams, before earning his UEFA Pro License from the FIGC course at Coverciano in 2019. From there, he was promoted to lead Inter’s U17 side, the U18s and later the Primavera team. Parma will be the first senior side he has coached in his career to date.

Pecchia, who took Parma to promotion by winning the Serie B title in 2023-24, was officially relieved of his duties on Monday evening following a run of four consecutive losses in Serie A.
The team have not won in the league this calendar year, with their last victory coming 10-man Monza on December 28.
Parma currently sit in 18th place in the Serie A table with a tally of 20 points after 25 matches, which means that Chivu has 13 games remaining to steer the ship away from relegation.
