The NUFC Head Coach speaking ahead of this match at St James’  Park.

Eddie Howe hoping to see his team come out of this latest international break, with a win against Brighton.

Official Newcastle United injury update – Availability for the Brighton match (and beyond):

Kieran Trippier – Eddie Howe this morning confirming the reported hamstring problem that forced Trippier off against Everton.

“Kieran has picked up a hamstring problem.

“It’s probably nothing too serious but it will keep him out for a few weeks.”

Alexander Isak – Eddie Howe had said before the international break that he hoped to have the striker back for Brighton, the striker having rest from club and country matches, to settle down a not serious (according to Howe) fracture to Isak’s toe.

Now on Friday morning Eddie Howe updating:

“Alex has trained and trained well, he trained at the start of this week and looked good.

“He will be in contention for the weekend.”

Lewis Miley – The teenager was ‘back on the grass’ in September and Eddie Howe hoping he like Callum Wilson would be able to join in with full group training during this current international break, with a view to hopefully coming back into consideration for Brighton.

Eddie Howe updating this morning:

“He has been back training during the break.

“He has looked really good, looks like he has not been away.

“It has been great to see.

“We will re-introduce him at the right time, he will have some competition, he is coming back into a great environment.”

Jamaal Lascelles – Recovery from knee surgery is ongoing but Eddie Howe has previously said hopefully there will soon be progress, in terms of being capable of mapping out the possible return to first team action

Sven Botman – See Jamaal Lascelles.

Callum Wilson – A few weeks ago, Eddie Howe said the intention was that the striker would return to full training throughout this October international break. With the hoped for possibility of him being considered for the matchday squad against Brighton.

This Friday morning the NUFC Head coach updating:

“Callum has trained, but we will continue to assess it day-by-day.

“We need to make sure it is the right time when we re-enter him into the group.

“When we get him back, we want to get him back for a long time, so it is important we make the right call.”

Martin Dubravka – Took a nasty bang on the knee against AFC Wimbledon which eventually forced him off at half-time. Left out of the matchday squad at Everton and then missing the Slovakia internationals this month, hopefully the rest seeing him back available for Brighton. No news of any lasting damage after that cup match 10 days ago. Dubravka was pictured in the official training photos on Wednesday released by the club, so you’d anticipate he is ok for Saturday’s squad.

So my reading of everything this morning, is that along with Lascelles and Botman, Trippier and Wilson won’t be available on Saturday.

However, great news that Alexander Isak sounds like he is set to start. Whilst Lewis Miley and Martin Dubravka could be set for a place on the bench, if selected.
