Napoli have officially axed Piotr Zielinski from their Champions League list ahead of a likely summer transfer to Inter Milan.

The Polish star is currently running on an expiring contract. The Partenopei have failed to reach an agreement with the player over a renewal, paving the way for the Nerazzurri to pounce on the situation

Inter directors Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio have been working on striking an accord with the 29-year-old for quite some time. Many sources believe that Inter have already an agreement in principle with the player and his entourage.

As we reported earlier today, Inter informed Napoli of their intentions to open direct talks with the player.

This compulsory procedure suggests that the final agreement is now imminent.

To further validate Zielinski’s inevitable summer exit, Napoli have now decided to drop the player out of the Champions League squad.

As TuttoMercatoWeb reports, the midfielder’s name doesn’t appear anywhere on the list presented to UEFA.

This means that the Poland international has already played his final European club for the reigning Italian champions.

Napoli Axe Inter Milan Transfer Target Piotr Zielinski From Champions League Squad

Zielinski has been a protagonist at the club since he first arrived in 2016. However, he hasn’t performed at his best this term, which is the case for several other Napoli stars as well.

On the other hand, the former Udinese man can still participate in league fixtures.

Walter Mazzarri’s European squad will feature three January signings in the shape of Cyril Ngonge, Hamed Junior Traore and Pasquale Mazzocchi. However, there’s no space for Leander Dedoncker.

Goalkeepers: Gollini, Meret, Contini, Idasiak

Defenders: Mazzocchi, Juan Jesus, Olivera, Ostigaard, Rrahmani, Mario Rui, Di Lorenzo, Natan

Midfielders: Cajuste, Lobotka, Traore, Anguissa

Forwards: Lindstrom, Ngonge, Osimhen, Simeone, Politano, Raspadori, Kvaratskhelia
