Racing Club de Lens have officially announced the signing of defensive midfielder Nampalys Mendy (31). The Senegalese international was a free agent following the expiry of his contract with Leicester City FC. Mendy underwent his medical on Monday and signed a three-year deal with the Artois side.
L’Equipe are reporting that the struggling Ligue 1 club, who are still winless after drawing one and losing three games, were in the market for a defensive midfielder with a view to competing with Salis Abdul Samed, who is the shadow of his former self from last season.
The AS Monaco youth product played 118 games for the Foxes since his €15m move from OGC Nice in 2016. Last season, he played a peripheral role in Leicester’s poor season that ended in relegation to the Championship, logging 19 Premier League appearances. Mendy will wear the #26 jersey with Franck Haise’s side this season.
