Racing Club de Strasbourg have signed Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Sanson (28) on loan until the end of the season in a deal that does not include an option to buy the player.
Sanson left Ligue 1 back in 2021 but is now making his return. Partially due to injury, Sanson never managed to nail down a spot in the Villa side. Following his €15m from Olympique de Marseille, he has only made 23 appearances, and now rejoins the French division where he has played 220 games, scored 35 times and registered 33 assists.
The former Montpellier and Le Mans player has joined Strasbourg until the end of the season, but there is no option to make the deal permanent in the summer. He joins a club embroiled in a relegation battle and without a manager. The Alsace club are outside the relegation zone only on goal difference, with four sides facing the drop this season.
