AS Monaco have been on the lookout for a goalkeeper and they finally have their man. Lukas Hradecky (35) has joined the Principality club on a two-year deal, it was announced on Friday.
The 35-year-old who was born in the Slovakian capital of Bratislava has made over 300 appearances in the Bundesliga, playing the last seven campaigns between the sticks at Bayer Leverkusen 04.
He was a part of the Bundesliga Team of the Season in 2017-18, his final campaign at Eintracht Frankfurt. The 2023-24 Bundesliga champion and German Cup winner at Leverkusen features internationally for Finland, earning over 100 caps for them, playing in all three of their matches at Euro 2020.
This signing comes as Les Monégasques are set to loan former first-choice goalkeeper Radoslaw Majecki (25) to Stade Brestois for the season. The Polish keeper became the starter in 2023/24, helping Monaco finish second and earn a place in the UEFA Champions League group stage. Philipp Köhn (27) and Majecki shared time in goal last season, but neither were convincing in their starts.
Six times in his career, Hradecky was voted Finnish Sports Journalist Footballer of the Year, while he was also named the Sports Personality of the Year in Finland in 2020.
Adi Hütter’s men begin the new Ligue 1 campaign in the Principality on Saturday, August 16, when they welcome Le Havre AC to Stade Louis II.
