Paris Saint-Germain have announced their first official signing of the summer, with Slovakian international defender Milan Škriniar being unveiled this morning.

The 28-year-old’s arrival was effectively wrapped up several months ago – and confirmed by the player himself – as the Ligue 1 champions eventually succeeded in their efforts to sign him by waiting until the expiry of his contract with the Nerazzurri this past week. Their move to sign the defender last summer had hit a stumbling block, by virtue of Inter’s €80m asking price – which PSG considered to be too high.

The second half of Škriniar’s season had seen him hampered by a back injury, for which he underwent surgery in Mérignac, near Bordeaux, back in April.

After six seasons – which included a 2020/21 Serie A title win – the centre-back has moved on to Ligue 1, having made 246 appearances for the club. He joins the Parisians on a five-year deal in the wake of Sergio Ramos’ departure on a free transfer, and is expected to be joined by a host of other new signings shortly after Luis Enrique’s unveiling as the team’s new head coach.
