Premier League club Brentford have officially confirmed the signing of Mikkel Damsgaard from Italian Serie A side Sampdoria.
Reports surrounding the Italian media understand that The Bees have signed the 22-year-old swift-footed footballer for a fee of around €20 million (including multiple bonuses).
With Christian Eriksen leaving Brentford as a free agent earlier this summer, Thomas Frank’s side was looking for an astute replacement for the Dane.
Well, in return for a Dane, Frank has now got a Dane who showed his mettle in an outstanding European Championship for the Danish national side last summer.
Sampdoria rejected Brentford’s initial offer of around €11 million plus a further €7 million in bonuses for the youngster.
But an improved offer, consisting of a fixed fee of €14 million plus a further €6 million in add-ons, saw the Italian club agreeing to sell one of their hidden gems.
Ravaged by a thigh injury, Damsgaard could make only 11 appearances during the 2021/22 Serie A campaign. Should he stay fit for most of the 2022/23 season, Premier League is up for some charm.
