With Barcelona on to their third match of the 2021/22 preseason, Barcelona has some news for the South American players who are yet to return.

The club has asked the players that participated in the Copa America to be back in training by the 2nd of August. This will be just in time for the friendly against Red Bull Salsburg. Lionel Messi, Kun Aguero and Emerson Royal are expected to join that day.

The Barça number 10’s case is rather peculiar on its own. Not having officially re-signed for the Catalans, the sextuple Ballon d’Or winner might train, but there is no certainty yet as of whether or not he will be able to play.

He specifically asked for an extra week of vacation with his family, and has been seen travelling all across North and South America.

Emerson and Aguero, who each didn’t have that big a part to play in the continental showpiece, are expected to return earlier and get them fit ahead of the commencement of the new season. Neither have played for Barca yet, and in such a period of tactical learning and integration will be pivotal to them.

Ronald Araújo was meant to join until next week too, but has returned earlier than expected. He has trained with the squad and is on his second day with Ronald Koeman’s side. He is expected to feature against VFB Stuttgart tomorrow as the team travels to Germany.
