In a stunning turn of events, Belgian coach Marc Brys (63) has tendered his resignation as head coach of the Cameroon national team, the iconic Indomitable Lions. This departure comes after months of open tension with the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT).

In an official letter dated July 21, 2025, addressed to the Minister of Sports, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, Brys announced the unilateral termination of his contract, which was signed on April 8, 2024. He cited the main reason as non-payment of his salary, as well as overdue wages for his technical staff for more than 60 days, in accordance with Article 7, paragraph 4, of the contract. Here is a key excerpt from his letter:

“As Head Coach of the Indomitable Lions, I hereby formally notify you of my decision to unilaterally terminate the aforementioned contract for just cause, due to the non-payment of my salary and that of my staff for over 60 days. [...] In accordance with this justified termination, I therefore request immediate payment of the residual value of the contract as compensation, as stipulated in the aforementioned article. I would appreciate your acknowledgment of this notice and the swift implementation of measures to resolve this situation, in order to avoid any legal proceedings before the competent bodies, including national courts and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), as provided by Article VIII of the contract.”

Significantly, a copy of this letter was also sent to Samuel Eto’o, president of FECAFOOT—a clear signal of the gravity of the crisis currently shaking Cameroonian football and its governing bodies.
