Manchester United have confirmed the date players are set to report back for pre-season training, with the summer break now entering its final stages.
United endured a horrible 2024/25 campaign, which saw them finish a lowly 15th place and with a -10 goal difference.
The Red Devils amassed a mere 42 points, having suffered 18 losses, nine of which came at home. It was undoubtedly the worst season in the club’s modern history.
Ruben Amorim and his players suffered further disappointment as they squandered their chance to lift a trophy and reach the Champions League, falling 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final. The defeat means they’ll miss out on European football entirely in the 2025/26 season.
After the final Premier League game of the season, a 2-0 victory over Aston Villa, Amorim addressed supporters and vowed that the mistakes of the past few months will never happen again under his leadership.
The Portuguese coach also voiced optimism about United’s future, insisting that the toughest period is now behind them.
Now, as United aim to move on from a disappointing season, the club has confirmed that players will report back in just a few weeks to begin pre-season preparations.
A club statement that was issued earlier on Monday read, “With the squad making the most of the chance to recharge their batteries, anticipation is already building, following last week’s release of the Premier League fixture list.”
“The hard work begins throughout the week commencing Monday 7 July.”
United’s first pre-season game will see them come up against old foes Leeds United in Stockholm on July 19.
The 20-time English champions will then head to the United States for the Premier League Summer Series, where they are set to face West Ham, Bournemouth, and Everton.
After the summer series, United will return to England for a friendly against Fiorentina on Saturday 9 August.
New signing Matheus Cunha will finally get the chance to meet his teammates and get to know them when they report for pre-season in a few weeks.
United will be hoping to add a few new faces to the squad by then, hopefully Bryan Mbeumo. Talks with Brentford are still ongoing after the club’s initial bid was rejected.
