Manchester United have confirmed the date for their FA Cup final clash at Wembley against rivals Manchester City.

United are set to take on Pep Guardiola’s men in the final of the domestic competition for the second year running. The two sides met last term but the Red Devils fell short in a 2-1 defeat. Bruno Fernandes scored his side’s only goal from the penalty spot.

The 20-time English champions progressed to the final on Sunday after their win on penalties against Championship outfit Coventry City.

Despite capitulating and throwing away a comfortable 3-0 advantage in regular team, United survived a huge scare to eventually prevail on penalties and set up a date against Man City.

Meanwhile, the reigning Premier League champions booked their slot after beating Chelsea 1-0 on Saturday. Bernardo Silva struck late on to secure the victory for the Blues, who were eliminated from the Champions League just three days earlier.

United and City will fight for the honour of lifting the FA Cup at the national stadium on Saturday 25 May.

Proceedings are scheduled to kick off at the traditional time of 15:00 BST.

United state via the official club website, “The time was agreed with the clubs, local authorities, members of the Safety Advisory Group and broadcasters, and it will be our last game of the season.”

“Live television coverage in the UK will be provided on BBC One, BBC iPlayer, ITV1, ITVX, UTV and STV.”

Should Ten Hag and his players manage to sink City, the club will receive a £2 million prize. The runners-up will pocket exactly half of that amount.

Even more significant for United, winning the FA Cup would guarantee them automatic entry into the Europa League.

A top-four finish looks almost certainly impossible and United are facing an uphill battle to qualify for the Europa League through the top-flight, with the likes of Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur providing stiff competition.

The stakes couldn’t be higher for United on 25 May. It will be the 22nd time the Reds have reached the final in their illustrious history – more times than any other club.
