La Liga outfit Villarreal have on Monday announced a high-profile addition to the club’s defensive ranks.
The player to have linked up with Marcelino’s troops with a view to next season? Willy Kambwala.
Stopper Kambwala, for his part, is fresh off something of a breakout season on the books of Premier League giants Manchester United.
Still just 19, the Frenchman was afforded his debut by Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag back in December of last year.
And, all told, Kambwala went on to rack up a further nine appearances, impressing those of a United persuasion along the way.
In turn, it came as something of a surprise when word was recently forthcoming in the media that the Old Trafford brass were locked in negotiations over their young defender’s potential sale.
After Villarreal made clear their interest in bringing Kambwala to Spain, the two clubs swiftly set about finding common ground on the terms of a transfer.
And, as alluded to above, early this week, precisely as much has been confirmed.
As per a statement across Villarreal’s website and social media platforms:
‘Villarreal CF and Manchester United have reached a transfer agreement for Willy Kambwala, who will wear the yellow shirt for the next five seasons, until June 2029.’
Turning attentions towards the finer details of the move, their latest addition is understood to have set the board at La Ceràmica back an initial €5.5 million.
This sum could ultimately go on to reach €11.5 million, though, in the case of Kambwala activating the €6 million worth of bonuses in his contract.
