Mainz 05 have this evening announced the appoint of Jan Siewert (41) on a permanent basis until 2026.
“We have analysed the sporting situation in great detail and in depth and have given ourselves the necessary time to do so,” said Christian Heidel, M05 Sporting Director.
“We are convinced that with Jan Siewert we will achieve our sporting goal of staying in the league and that we made the best decision for Mainz 05. Jan Siewert have the team positive impulses, and he also enjoys great support from the team and staff, and he knows the club and is passionate about this task.”
Siewert was appointed on an interim basis following the dismissal of Bo Svensson in November. The former Borussia Dortmund II and Huddersfield Town manager has since lost just two of his seven Bundesliga games in charge, winning one and drawing four. More impressively, he guided Mainz to a 2-0 win against RB Leipzig in his first game, and picked up an important point against Borussia Dortmund at the Westfalenstadion.
“I’m very happy about the trust of the club, which I have already felt in the past few weeks,” said Siewert. “We have always had an open exchange with each other. We have a common task ahead of us as our club. I’m sure that we will master this task with the quality of our team, our team spirit and solidarity with our fans and in the club.”
After departing Huddersfield Town in 2019, the following year Siewert was appointed as Head of Academy at Mainz, and has been at the club ever since.
