Brighton have announced the signing of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud on a free transfer.

The 27-year-old midfielder was out of contract this summer after the Black and Yellows confirmed that Dahoud would not be offered an extension in February. Despite offers from Leicester City and Sevilla, the Syrian-born German international chose the exciting English side.

It has been a difficult time for Dahoud since he joined BVB from Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2017 for €12m. The midfielder has missed a total of 50 games for Die Schwarzgelben during his six-year spell at the club through injury.

However, Dahoud has still been able to make 141 appearances for Dortmund in all competitions since 2017, scoring five goals and collecting 17 assists. This season, Dahoud missed the majority of the Hinrunde with a shoulder injury that required surgery, which limited his game time to just nine Bundesliga appearances as Dortmund narrowly missed out on the Bundesliga title.

Dahoud will leave the Bundesliga runners-up alongside six other players this season, which include the likes of fellow midfielder Jude Bellingham and full-bak Raphaël Guerreiro. It will be a key summer for Die Schwarzgelben as they will look to strengthen the side in order to go one better next season and be crowned Bundesliga champions.
