As confirmed by the club, OGC Nice have re-appointed the club’s former manager Lucien Favre as head coach this afternoon, replacing the outgoing Christophe Galtier.

The leadership structure at the club has been in flux for several weeks following a shock Coupe de France final loss to Nantes last month and a review carried out by owners INEOS which looked at the club’s hierarchy. All that came against the backdrop of a sensational interview by director of football Julien Fournier in which he lambasted coach Christophe Galtier, heavily criticising his performance after a season of frosty relations between the two men.

Set to join PSG as coach, Galtier, meanwhile, is barely mentioned in the club’s statement, which simply states Galtier ‘no longer manages the first team of OGC Nice’.

Club owner Jim Ratcliffe of INEOS told the club’s website:

“I am absolutely delighted that Lucien Favre is joining us. He is an experienced coach, who has had success in the Bundesliga, but also here in Nice. Everywhere, he engenders respect and admiration. We like the way he develops his teams and he fits perfectly with the vision we have at INEOS of the style of play we want for OGC Nice.”

Favre took Nice to a superb third-place finish in 2017, challenging for the title, in his first spell as coach, which encompassed 99 games, before leaving for Borussia Dortmund in 2018.
