Promising French goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier (21) has signed a contract extension with formative club Lille, the northern club have announced. The Calais-born keeper has been a mainstay for the Paulo Fonseca-led side, having started the season on the bench as Leo Jardim’s (27) understudy but leapfrogged the Brazilian in the pecking order. Jardim then left this winter transfer window for Vasco Da Gama with Auxerre keeper Benoît Costil (35) putting pen to paper on a deal with Les Dogues.

Chevalier played 16 games for Lille and kept seven clean sheets this season. He was called up by French U21 manager Sylvain Ripoll last year and looks set for a promising national team future. Chevalier is now tied to Lille with a contract due to expire in 2027, with his extension made official with Lille posting a video of former Lille shotstopper Mike Maignan congratulating his former teammate.
