2. Bundesliga side Schalke 04 have today announced the contract extension of Loris Karius until 2027. The 31-year-old joined the Royal Blues last winter and made four appearances in the second half of the season before picking up a season-ending injury in March. S04 will go into the 2025/26 campaign with Karius as their No. 1.

“The discussions with Loris were very good, and we are therefore happy that we were able to agree on a contract extension. We see Loris as a goalkeeper with excellent skills who is also a valuable team player. We are all the more excited to continue our journey together,” said Youri Mulder, Director of Professional Football. “Loris has worked very professionally during his rehabilitation to return to the training ground at the start of preseason.”

Miron Muslic, formerly of Plymouth, was appointed as Schalke’s head coach and was quick to praise Karius’ profile following his extension: “In addition to his goalkeeping skills, Loris brings a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to the game. He wants to take on responsibility and will be one of the leaders in our team. I’m looking forward to working with him.”

Karius added: “I’m very pleased that we were able to agree on a shared future through fruitful discussions. With my performances, I want to contribute to us playing successful football again as a team and regaining the trust of the fans. This is our mission as players, and we must work on it from the first day of summer preseason.”
