Lens have tonight confirmed the signing of right-back Ruben Aguilar, with the one-time French international joining from Monaco and putting pen to paper on a three-year deal.
The 30-year-old joins the Champions League-bound Sang et Or after reportedly coming close to a move to Rennes earlier this summer. Instead of Brittany, he is heading for the north of France, where he will ostensibly compete with Polish international Przemysław Frankowski (who is currently injured) for a spot on the right flank.
Reports from earlier this week indicated that an agreement had been reached with the Principality club over €3.5m fee, which could eventually rise to €4m if add-on conditions are met. Since joining from Montpellier back in 2019, Aguilar has made 123 appearances for Monaco – but he has not featured so far this season. The former Saint-Étienne and Auxerre man earned his first cap for France in a friendly against Finland back in 2020.
