RC Lens released a statement confirming Kevin Danso failed his Roma medical and the €25m transfer is off, so the Giallorossi get Tiago Djalò from Juventus instead.
The defender flew in yesterday and underwent a set of tests in the Italian Capital, hoping to complete the loan with obligation to buy for €23m plus €2m in add-ons.
However, late this evening reports emerged in Sky Sport Italia and the Corriere dello Sport that he had failed the medical.
Specifically, it is suggested he was not given permission to play in Italy by the local authorities, which could potentially mean some sort of cardiac irregularity was spotted.
It also means Roma had absolutely no control over those tests, so the French implication that they were trying to lower Danso’s price simply don’t make sense.
Italian medical tests to allow sporting activity are extremely strict, which is why Christian Eriksen had to leave Inter – he would not be cleared to perform any sport with an implantable cardiac defibrillator.
With no time to make further investigations before the transfer deadline, Roma decided to pull the plug on the whole deal, as confirmed in a statement by RC Lens.
The French club disputes the failed medical and muses about an ‘interpretation’ of the medical test that they imply might be hiding a ‘deeper reason’ for the failed move.
Meanwhile, Roma have already found a replacement, securing Tiago Djalò on loan from Juventus with an option to buy for €9m plus €1m in add-ons.
