Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Leandro Paredes (29) has sealed his return to AS Roma, both clubs have announced. The Argentine was deemed surplus to requirements by Les Parisiens and spent last season on loan at Juventus.

According to Foot Mercato, PSG and the Serie A side agreed upon a €5m transfer fee for the signing of the 2022 World Cup winner. The Ligue 1 champions have tried for a long time to sell the Argentine. In June, Juventus refused to trigger the €22m option to make his move to Turin permanent. Paredes was entering the final year of his contract with PSG and was training with the club’s “undesirables“.

For Paredes, it is an unexpected return to the Italian capital. The 29-year-old midfielder came to prominence at AS Roma’s Stadio Olimpico. He joined the Giallorossi on loan from Boca Juniors nine years ago. The following year, in 2015, he signed for a €6m deal. AS Roma was in the market for midfield reinforcements following the departure of Nemanja Matić to current Ligue 1 leaders Stade Rennais. Paredes arrived at Rome’s Ciampino airport on Tuesday alongside Renato Sanches, who will join José Mourinho’s side on loan. The Argentine is tied to Roma until the summer of 2025.
