Lazio have announced that their midfielder Marcos Antonio has joined Sao Paulo on loan with an obligation to buy.
The 24-year-old signed for the Biancocelesti in the summer of 2022 following his breakthrough at Shakhtar Donetsk, but he failed to carve himself a starting role at Maurizio Sarri’s court during his first season in Italian football. Therefore, the club decided to send him on loan to PAOK Salonika last summer in order to earn regular playing time.
Following his experience in Greece, Antonio returned to Rome this summer, but only to seal a return to his home country of Brazil through the gates of Sao Paulo. Lazio announced the transfer on their official website, revealing that the midfielder signed for the Brazilian giants on loan with an obligation to buy set at €5 million if he plays at least 50% of the club’s matches this season.
SS Lazio announces that it has temporarily transferred the rights to the sporting performances of the footballer Marcos Antonio to São Paulo FC with an obligation to purchase if particular sporting conditions occur.
Antonio is still tied to a contract with the Biancocelesti valid until June 2027. So he could still return to Rome in case the obligation-to-buy clause doesn’t get triggered at the end of the season.
