Earlier today, AC Milan Women announced that stalwart defender, Laura Fusetti, will be hanging up her playing boots, and will be the manager of the Women’s Primavera team next season. The defender has been an integral part of the defence ever since she joined the team from Brescia in 2018.

Fusetti has donned the number six shirt and has regularly spoken about the honour that the shirt provides, as it was the same number that the legendary Franco Baresi wore. It was not solely the number where the comparisons extend to, given the 33-year-old has had several Baresi-like performances during her stay at the club, showing true Rossonere spirit consistently.

After 135 appearances for Milan, scoring two goals and creating two assists for the team, it was announced on the club’s website that she would be retiring.

However, whilst Fusetti is retiring, she will not be leaving the team. Instead, she will take on the role of team manager for the Primavera Women starting next season. Referenced throughout the statement was her impact on the club and teammates, which is why she has been seen as someone who can take the Rossonere forward.

The defender will make her final playing appearance for the team tomorrow as Milan play their final game of the season against Sampdoria, and a special farewell is planned. The game will be played at the Vismara and kickoff will be at 18:00 CET.
