Simon Kjær has signed a new contract and will continue to lead the defense.

Stefano Pioli often says that his Milan was born in January 2020 with the arrivals of Zlatan Ibrahimović, Alexis Saelemaekers and of course – Simon Kjær.

The Dane has been a rock at the heart of the Milan defense, a true leader on and off the pitch both for his extraordinary performances on the playing field and his incredible personality outside of it.

Today, nearly two weeks after renewing Saelemaekers until 2026, Milan also confirmed the renewal of Kjær: “Milan are delighted to announce that Simon Thorup Kjær has extended his contract with the Club until 30 June 2024,” a statement on the Milan website reads.

“Simon, who is an exemplary professional on and off the pitch, captain of Denmark and on the 30-man shortlist for the 2021 Ballon d’Or, joined the Rossoneri in January 2020, making his debut against SPAL in the Coppa Italia. In total, the Dane has made 66 appearances and scored one goal, which came against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Now, Kjær and Milan will be continuing their journey together.”

Simon is the second player to have his contract extended, but it’s expected that more will follow. While keeping Alessio Romagnoli and Franck Kessié would be more difficult, Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara are working to also renew Ismaël Bennacer, Theo Hernández and Rafael Leão.

Kjær is one of Pioli’s certain starters at Milan and even though he doesn’t play every three days, he’s always there leading his group of teammates.
