Kelechi Iheanacho is now officially a Celtic FC player. The Nigerian striker has joined the Scottish champions after mutually terminating his contract with Sevilla. The deal was finalized on the evening of Tuesday, September 2, more than 24 hours after the close of the Scottish transfer window.

Kelechi Iheanacho's contract with Sevilla FC was set to run until June 2026. He arrived as a free agent from Leicester in the summer of 2024, but only featured in eleven matches for the Andalusian side, scoring three goals. During the second half of the 2024/2025 season, he was loaned out to Middlesbrough in the Championship, where he made fifteen appearances, notching one goal and two assists. The Spanish club officially confirmed the amicable termination of his contract.

Brendan Rodgers finally lands the attacking reinforcement he’s been searching for. The Celtic manager explored various options throughout this summer transfer window, notably trying to sign Kasper Dolberg from Anderlecht before Ajax swooped in at the last minute. The option of David Datro Fofana from Chelsea also fell through, with the player turning down a loan move.

“Celtic Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of a one-year contract with Kelechi Iheanacho, subject to international clearance, with an option for a further year,” announced the Scottish champions.
