It has been a fantastic 24 hours for Real Madrid, and especially talisman Jude Bellingham, who scored the winner against Barcelona yesternight in their 3-2 win at the Santiago Bernabeu.
If that was not enough, Bellingham has now officially been awarded the Laureus Award for the Breakthrough of the Year for 2024.
The Englishman shouldered immense expectations when he moved from Borussia Dortmund to Real Madrid in the summer for €103 million, especially after rejecting moves to several Premier League giants such as Liverpool and Manchester City.
He has met those expectations and exceeded them by a ton, having scored 21 goals this season in Carlo Ancelotti’s experimental 4-3-1-2 system. He also has ten assists to his name.
These numbers, while exceptional, do not even begin to paint the bigger picture of Bellingham’s impact at Madrid, with winners against Barcelona – twice now -, Union Berlin, Getafe, Celta Vigo, and more.
He was nominated for the award alongside Linda Caicedo, Coco Gauff, Qin Haiyang, Josh Kerr, and Barcelona Femeni’s Salma Paralluelo.
