At the end of a chaotic transfer market deadline day, Milan welcome their 10th and final signing of the summer: Jović.

The Rossoneri were looking for a new striker to act as the understudy of Olivier Giroud, and after failing to close the deals of Mehdi Taremi from Porto, Patson Daka from Leicester City and Rafa Mir from Sevilla, Milan went to the default option and settled for Jović, who was very clearly not their favorite option.

“Milan is delighted to announce the signing of Luka Jović on a permanent transfer. The Serbian striker has signed a contract with the Club until 30 June 2024,” a statement reads.

“Born in Loznica on 23 December 1997, Luka progressed through the youth ranks of Crvena zvezda, for whom he made his first-team debut on 28 May 2014 against Vojvodina. He went on to score 13 goals in 48 appearances for Crvena zvezda. In February 2016, he moved to Benfica, where he played for a season before joining Eintracht Frankfurt. In total, he played 75 times for the German side and scored 36 goals. On 4 June 2019, Luka signed for Real Madrid (two goals in 32 appearances), after which he returned to Eintracht on loan in January 2021 (18 appearances, four goals). Following this loan spell, he headed back to Madrid for the 2021/22 season (19 appearances, one goal). In July 2021, Jović moved to Fiorentina, where he found the net 13 times in 50 matches. At international level, Jović has scored ten goals in 30 appearances for Serbia.

“Luka Jović will wear the number 15.” Jović is a low-cost, possibly short-term solution for Milan, who got him without a transfer fee from Fiorentina. He will earn €2.5m plus bonuses in this season, which is the same salary he had at the Viola.

Jović’s contract was Fiorentina was due to expire in 2024 and they had been looking to offload him all summer, offering him to Milan several times. In the end, Luka joins and he’ll try to convince.
