Burnley have announced that they have completed the permanent signing of Jordan Beyer from Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Beyer had spent the previous season on loan at Burnley as they looked to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking. Within the loan agreement, there was a buy option of €15m which has been activated. The 22-year-old is the fourth confirmed departure from Gladbach.

Speaking to the club media, Beyer commented on his permanent move: “I couldn’t be happier at the moment. Lifting the trophy on Monday, winning the league and now set to become a Claret on a permanent basis. I’ve enjoyed being here since the moment I stepped into this building. It feels like home to me. I love playing at Turf Moor and celebrating with the fans and hopefully, there is more of that to come.” The defender played 30 times for Burnley in the Championship as they topped the league with 101 points.

The move will bring to an end Beyer’s eight-year association with Gladbach. The 22-year-old had been a boyhood fan of Gladbach and joined the academy in 2015, however, was only able to make 36 appearances for the first team with the majority of those appearances coming under Adi Hütter. In the second half of the 2019/20 season, he spent six months on loan at Hamburg in the 2.Bundesliga.

The money earned from the sale of Beyer will likely go towards Gladbach’s continued rebuild this summer. They have already completed the signing of Lukas Ullrich and have made Julian Weigl’s loan permanent but will continue to address the problem areas in the squad.
